GES Releases 2025/2026 Academic Calendar for Basic Schools.

 


The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially released the approved academic calendar for the 2025/2026 academic year for all basic schools across the country. 

This directive, dated 11th July 2025, was issued by the Director of the Schools and Instructions Division, Mr. Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, on behalf of the Acting Director-General of GES.

According to the statement, all Regional Directors of Education are expected to ensure that heads of basic schools within their regions strictly adhere to the details of the academic calendar. The calendar covers Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High School levels and aims to promote smooth and effective academic operations throughout the school year.

Key Highlights of the 2025/2026 Academic Calendar

First Term (15 Weeks)

•Start Date: 2nd September, 2025

•Vacation: 18th December, 2025

•Mid-Term Break: 31st October – 3rd November, 2025 (2 days)

•Second Term (12 Weeks)

•Reopening: 8th January, 2026

•Vacation: 1st April, 2026

Third Term (13 Weeks)

•Reopening: 21st April, 2026

•Vacation: 23rd July, 2026

•End of Academic Year: 24th July, 2026

Special Note for JHS 3 Students

•The calendar for JHS 3 students aligns with that of KG–JHS 2 throughout the academic year.

•However, candidates in JHS 3 will sit for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) from 4th to 11th May 2026.

Additional Notes

•All public holidays should be observed in accordance with national guidelines.

•Each term will include a mid-term break of two days, with specific dates to be communicated where applicable.
